MISSION TRIPS

Nashville Work Camp (7th/8th grade and older)
Looking for an exciting and uplifting week of service and worship? Nashville Workcamp offers a wonderful way for teens to get involved in the community here in Nashville. Primarily designed as the Jr. High mission trip, this experience has become a favorite with all of the teens. Each day they divide into different groups to scrape and paint houses around town. The West End Church of Christ hosts nightly dinners and worship services during the week. Details and applications availble spring of 2009.

Freshman/Sophomore Mission Trip (9th/10th grade) July 2009 -  Each summer, a group of teens spends a week working in the inner city of another state. The team spends time with the children teaching them about God’s powerful truth through VBS-style activities. The primary goals of these trips is building relationships with the inner city kids and teaching them spiritual truths. These trips truly provide a powerful opportunity for teenagers to serve God by impacting and influencing others in unforgettable ways. Our teens have worked with the inner city in Pensacola, Miami, and St. Louis. (photos) Our teens wound up working in Columbus, IN in an area recently damaged by flooding. Teens learned to work together as a team AND got some incredible drywall skills. They were blessed to work on the home of Mrs. Mary, who was very sweet and very gracious to our teens. 2009 trip details and application available spring 2009.

Jamaica (11th-12th grade) July 2009
In 1996, the MYG began a series of annual trips to Morant Bay, Jamaica. Almost a third world country, the group works on the south side of the island, away from all the “touristy” glamour. 200+ kids come in for a V.B.S. where many of them receive the first really good meal they’ve had in weeks. Michael and Leila Dehaney have been working with this church for several years and open up their home to house some of our team each year. This church is a shining example of those who love the Lord and know what it’s like to be “in the world but not of the world.” 2009 application available spring 2009

EVENTS

SPRING/SUMMER

MYG Sr. High Spring Retreat (9th – 12th grade):

Impact: Junior (6th-8th grade-08/09 school year) June 19-22, 2009
Impact: Senior (9th-12th grade-08/09school year) June 22-27, 2009

Impact is an amazing summer camp that takes place on the campus of Lipscomb University. Campers experience God along side of 1,500 other campers and over 100+ counselors. Jr. High Impact is 3 days long while Sr. High is 6 days long. Every day includes Bible classes taught by fun and energetic teachers, “Morning Impact” where the audience’s intensity resembles a college bowl football game, free time which offers various athletics or hanging out in the super hip Coffee House, evening entertainment, and a keynote speaker who uses fresh, inventive and applicable ways of portraying the Word of God to this generation’s teens. Some of the best times at Impact are the times of worship, which is amazing when 1,500 teens are lifting praises to their Maker. The most amazing thing about Impact is the number of teens who give their lives to Christ. Most nights end with youth groups circled around the baptistery watching their friends be immersed in Christ. Applications available spring 2009.

After delivery of the fruit, teens enjoy an afternoon of bowling.

MTCAA Junior and Senior High Basketball League (7th -12th grade)
Madison Basketball is FANTASTIC! The MTCAA Basketball League has been in operation since the mid-1970s. Although the length of the shorts has changed since then, the competitive play in a Christian environment still remains. Young men and women involved with basketball league are taught fundamental lessons about basketball and life in general. The coaches do an amazing job at emphasizing unity, hard work, and having fun! The season will begin the first week in November, and it will end the last week in February.
